Day 1 ☆

In the first class, we had several discussions about all of the adventures we might be going on, or our next classes, etc. And after that, we had dancing class–We learnt a new dance today, it is fun yet a bit challenging. After that ended, we went to a different classroom with two 12th graders who are good at english and an english teacher (?). We introduced ourselves, and what we like to do. They were very nice, we also read a story from a book called “Hua Mulan„. Hua Mulan is a legendary folk heroine from the Northern and Southern dynasties era of Chinese history. It’s about a young woman who took her aged father’s place in the conscription for the army by disguising herself as a man. In the story, after prolonged and distinguished military service against nomadic hordes beyond the northern frontier, Mulan is honored by the emperor but declines a position of high office. As we read the book, everyone had to atleast say one sentence, since reading outloud also helps with our accent and therefore makes it easier for the teachers to understand what level of reading we are in english. The book was very interesting, since it also mentions that not only men can fight, women can fight just as good, they are not obligated to do housework and take care of children all day. The teachers did a great job at trying to improve our english and trying to get us to open up to them, since human communication is important. We also talked about fashion shows, models, etc. But some (including me) were not that interested in that topic, the teachers suggested us to pick a topic to have a discussion/debate about. We wrote our full names and e-mails on paper, so they can send the full Hua Mulan story to our Outlooks. One of the teachers also mentioned a theater group, a musical one (?). Classes ended at 1:35 PM, a hour earlier than usual school hours because of the temporary school camp we’re in.
